Lavishly embroidered and monogrammed
French linen sheets and large square pillowcases from
1870 – 1940, as well as standard cases from Italy
and the U.S., add a touch of luxury to your beds. Linen
sheets breathe, and are as comfortable as they are beautiful.
Our linens come from family linen presses
and armoires, and are reminiscent of a life filled with
fine things, and young girls embroidering their trousseaus.
Our linens are mainly of two types: fil, which
is a very fine light weight linen, and lin, a
regular weight of linen. We only offer metis, a
linen-cotton blend, where the sheets are of a particularly
interesting character. These also have a more modest
price.
All of the bed sheets and cases are
embroidered with Anglais, bourdon (satin
stitch dots or squares), or other interesting hand stitches,
and most also have rows of jour, or drawn work, and/or
cutwork. Some have lace or Renaissance (ribbon lace)
borders or appliqués. They also have lovely, and
often quite large and elaborate, monograms.
Most bed linens are white on white,
but a few interesting pieces are embroidered or edged
with lace or appliqué in colors- usually blue
or yellow. A few also have traditional red monograms.
Antique linens need gentle care. We
are happy to provide you with instructions for cleaning,
washing, and storing the items that you purchase. |
